Victory over Singapore secures seventh place! Men

06.05.26 Botkyrka, Sweden: Just as in 2004 the US Men ended up on the 17th position. The placement game for the 17th and 18th positions at the 2006 World Floorball Championships would be a shoot out with the teams combining for 20 goals.
Not a great game for the coaches but certainly for the spectators.
It only took about two minutes before Team USA started the scoring, 1-0 by Urs Meister on a great pass from Henrik Kok. But less than a minute later the Singaporeans struck, evening the score at one a piece.
As written however the goals would just keep coming this game and before the signal for the end of the first period the U.S. team had scored five more times. This meant a three goal lead as Singapore had scored twice. Including a penalty shot goal with a second left in the period.
In the second period the U.S. would extend its lead despite Singapore scoring a minute into the period. Because the early goal would be Singapore’s only tally that period despite two power plays when Henrik Kok and later Karl Förare rode the penalty bench. The same duo then combined for a U.S. goal as Kok assisted Förare to 7-4. The period was rounded off by a U.S. power play goal by Jani Blankenship 8-4.
The third period would end 5-3 to Team U.S.A. which gave a final score of 13-7. Vince Faso was the one who rounded off the scoring with the U.S’ 13th goal.
Also note worthy the oldest player, yet very young at heart, Jan-Erik Paris had 2 goals and almost reached a hat trick in this final game of the W.F.C.
As for scoring leaders in the WF.C. team USA had two players among the top twelve. Karl Förare at the 10th position with 13 points (8 goals and 5 assists) and Daniel Karvik at the 12th position with 12 points (5 goals and 7 assists).
So Team USA ended up at a respectable 17th place. For those wondering Great Britain, that the U.S. beat earlier, beat Australia in the relegation game. So Australia will be playing in the C division in 2008 while Poland will make the leap to the B division.
