Women’s World Floorball Championships Around the Corner! Woman

09.11.24 USA: In a little less than two weeks the Womens World Championships will be commencing in Västerås, Sweden. We have checked in with a few of the players. Starting with, in net, Brandee Gomez.
Gomez stumbled upon floorball when living in Austin, Texas. As a former ice hockey goalie, it seemed like it would be something she’d be good at. And she was right! It only took one session and then she was hooked. “ It’s one of those sports that once you have it in your blood, it’s hard to see yourself not playing again.” She says.
Gomez has high hopes for the team in the upcoming WFC.
“I’d love to see us make it into at least the semi-final bracket and put the US national team on the floorball map, or at least beat one of the top-tier teams to show that we can do it.”
She is aware thought that it is going to be really tough.
“Finland, Sweden, and Switzerland, though not necessarily in that order, will be our toughest opponents. Those three teams have finished in the top 3 enough to show theyve got what it takes and are serious about winning. Also, you know that anyone who calls floorball innebandy means business!”
How to get floorball started in the states?
“I think general exposure is the biggest factor in growing floorball. No one I know has even heard of it, and its hard to get excited about something if you have no clue what it is. The more people who have even the vaguest idea of what it is, the more people who will be curious enough to play.” She says.
On a personal note she hopes to be in the top five goalies in terms of save percentages in this competition, and represent the U.S. team the best she can.
Finally what can we expect to see from the U.S. team during the Championships? “You can expect to see some fierce competition. Just because our people may have never heard of the sport, doesn’t mean our team isn’t there to play hard and win. Go Team USA!”

The USFA becomes the USFbA! As you might have noticed the USA Floorball Association acronym has been changing on the website. The work is not yet complete but we feel we should inform everyone why. The simple fact is that the USFA is the US Fencing Associaton.
We where not aware of this and aplogise to the USFA for any inconvinience this might have caused them. We also send thanks for their understanding in this matter.
We will continue the work with changing the acronyms on the website until it is complete. So from now on the USA Floorball Association is know as the USFbA. |
