With just under 50 days to go until floorball gets to step into the World Games the players set to represent team USA are excited. Mattias Hansen, who was part of the team that secured the spot in the World Games at the WFC, is ready.

─ I can’t wait! This has been our goal in team USA since the 2014 World Floorball Championships. We have worked hard together to get in to the tournament and now I’m going to enjoy it as much as I possibly can.

What are your expectations going into the World Games?
─ An experience of a life time, both on and off the court. This as close to the Olympics an athlete can get without actually being in the Olympics. Playing against Sweden will be the toughest challenge in my floorball carrier to date. In my mind they there is no greater team in floorball. There is so much to look forward to and be excited about with The World Games, Mattias Hansen reveals.

Does team USA have a shot at upsetting any of the big teams?
─ The realistic goal for Team USA I think should be 5:th place. However we are going to do everything in our power to beat all the teams we face. Shorter games should make an upset easier and with a perfect performance, who knows? I would like to say that when we play the top teams there are many ways for us to come out with a victory without actually winning the game.

What goals do you have on a personal level?
─ Performance wise I aim to be at the top of my game helping Team USA in any way that I can. I also aim to enjoy every second of the World Games, he continues.

Why are the World Games so important for floorball?
─ Floorball is a growing sport with great potential. Now it’s all about being seen and reaching out to people. The World Games does exactly this for the game. The World Games is the largest joint sports event outside of the Olympics and with the goal to get to the Olympics this feels like a great step in the right direction!

What do you think of floorball’s future in the United States?
─ From what I hear everyone who tries the sport loves it. The potential in a country with so many people as the US is of course great. The challenge is introducing the sport to as many people as possible. I know that there are a lot of people working hard and doing great work in the states to make the sport grow. That gives me confidence in that floorball will keep on growing. I don’t think there is a ceiling for how big the sport can get. High school, college and pro leagues should all be possible. My motivation for that is that floorball is a great sport, easy and cheap to play and it works well at every level. From fun exercise after school or work to pro fulltime athletes, the game is for everyone, Mattias Hansen concludes.
