In their first game of the World Games team USA faced off with Switzerland. The Swiss team scored a goal a minute in the first three minutes of the game and then went on from there to win 17-0.
Team USA came out and fought hard but had a tough time matching the speed of the skilled Swiss team. The Swiss showed a fast-paced passing game as well as skill on the breakaways. 6-0 after the first period became 13-0 after two.
Team USA had their chances. Among others Mattias Hansen, who was named player of the game, was close to getting one past the Swiss goaltender. Team USA also blocked a large number of shots and had several turnovers that didn't quite make it to the net.
Several Swiss players stood out, not least their player of the game Mattias Hofbauer.
In the end Team USA had to leave the court with a 17-0 loss and a lesson learned.
The next game will be against Sweden tomorrow, Friday, at 12:00 CEST. That game can be seen on the IFF YouTube Channel here.
Stefan Zimmermann was interviewed by the IFF after the game.
