World Floorball Championships Qualifiers coming to Colorado Springs

On February 12-14 USA Floorball and Floorball Colorado will host the 2016 World Floorball Championship Qualifiers at the Olympic Training Center. Team USA, Jamaica and Canada will be competing for two spots at the World Floorball Championships in Riga, Latvia later this year. Jamaica is making their debut in the United States and Canada is the perennial rival.

"Floorball continues to grow in popularity here in the States. Hockey programs have started to use Floorball as an important off-ice training tool." says Anders Buvarp, organizer of the Qualifiers and a native of Sweden, where Floorball became wildly popular during the 1970s and is now the second largest team sport with over 120,000 registered players.

"Floorball is fast-paced, fun, easy to learn and inexpensive. My goal of competing on the international level is to raise awareness of the sport and hopefully spark the interest of young players here in the states." says Adam Hammerman, a recent addition to the US squad.

Floorball Colorado is also organizing the inaugural edition of the Rocky Mountain Floorball Cup, which will run parallel to the qualifiers. Athletes from all over the United States will be competing.

"We hope that Colorado Springs locals of all ages will come to these free events and experience floorball first hand. We can always use the support of USA fans in the stands when facing Canada." says Calle Karlsson, President of USA Floorball.

Admission is free, donations encouraged and below is the schedule for the qualifiers:

Jamaica vs USA, Friday, February 12 at 7PM

Canada vs Jamaica, Saturday, February 13 at 3PM

USA vs Canada, Sunday, February 14 at 1PM
