Great Finish to the Men's U19 World Floorball Championships

Adam Troy

Saturday morning and time for Team USA's last game of the Men's U19 World Floorball Championships in Helsingborg, Sweden. The last game was against Japan to secure the 15th spot in the championships. After another high scoring game Team USA would come out on top by 11-6.

After the battle for North America it is was a matter of once again revving the engines and to perform. And perform Team USA does. After only 33 second of the game Sean Haggarty finds the nett assisted by Adrian Arbil, 1-0, but the offical record gives the goal to Derek Fennelly. Team USA control the play and play their way through the Japanese defense time and time again. The Japanese on their part are speedy and turn the game around every chance they get but team USA work hard in the defense. The few times a shot makes it through Max PÃ¥lsson in the US goal flashes his reflexes to keep the Japanese team off the scoreboard in the first. Team USA however had not finished scoring. About halfway through the first Isak Angerstig is able to flip the ball in from a tight angle. Team USA's third goal comes less than a minute later as Adrian Hiram keeps his scoring streak alive. 3-0 after one period.

In the second period Japan tries to pressure Team USA and they get reward by an early goal, 3-1 after 2:49. But the US team recover from the initial lapse and turn in a strong showing in the second. A few minutes after Japan's goal Angerstig scores his second of the game. Captain Alexander Miller follows this up by a sweeping shot from half court that finds its way in behind the Japanese goalie, 5-1. Although Japan are able to score again Team USA will get the most out of the second period. Before it is over Angerstig completes his hat trick, Brij Sing scores from up close and Noel Menzi blasts one from half court. 8-2 after two.

In the initial stages of the third period Japan once again come out strong forcing Max PÃ¥lsson in the US net to make some difficult saves. And the third period would belong to Japan despite Joshua Verschleiser scoring for Team USA within the first two minutes of the period. The Japanese team would come to score four times in the period while Team USA answered with three goals. Both Sean Haggarty and Adrian Arbil score for team USA in the third. The final score is 11-6 to Team USA. With that they end their first ever U19 World Floorball Championships with a win and a 15th place.
