In their second game of the Men's U19 World Floorball Championships Team USA faced Denmark.Team USA would play well against a strong Danish team but the end result would be 2-13 in favor of Denmark.
Contrary to the first game Team USA came out of the gates with speed and intensity. Sean Haggerty and Brij Singh create some good pressure and Singh almost gets the ball to the net in the initial minutes. Adrian Arbil also gets a good chance when he cuts into the middle but the Danish goaltender stands fast.
Whenever the US team has the ball the Danes pressure them hard but most of the time the Americans are able to find their way into the Danish zone and are able to create some good chances.
After 4:06 of the first the Danes pounce on a bad change and score 0-1. About four minutes later the Danes strike again on a free hit from half court, 0-2. Unfortunately 0-3 and 0-4 follow rapidly but the US team is playing well despite the deficit. And Christopher Mattone keeps the team in the game making a number of crucial saves in the period.
The crowd keeps the team pumped up as "USA! USA! USA!" echoes through the arena.
With under half the period to go team USA gets a chance to play 5 on 3 and gets the passing going but can't find the net. Instead the Danish team end the period with a power play goal with only 35 seconds left.
In the second period the Danes occasionally pull back more as the Americans create pressure. This is helped by the early power play for team USA that sees good shots by Felix Ström and Alexander Miller. Unfortunately the Danish team are able to counterattack and score 0-6 after 3:41. But Team USA is not deterred and eight minutes in Isak Angerstig is very close to netting on a wraparound. Close to the midpoint of the period Captain Miller fires off a great shot from half court but the ball whizzes by the top corner. After 11:11 Team USA's leading scorer Adrian Hiram scores again on the power play after a scramble in front of the net due to good plays by Andrew Kratsios and Adrian Abil, 1-6.
The Danes round off the period with two goals, the last coming with one second to go, despite great play by goaltender Mattone. The period also showcases some great shot blocks by Team USA. 1-9 after two periods.
Team USA started the third period with some great chances. Brij Singh and Adrian Hiram are close and Adrian Arbil hits the crossbar! After 3:24 off the third Felix Ström comes from the left and finds a space under the goalies arm, 2-9.
But the Danish team are to strong this game and are finally able to win by 2-13 after a flurry of goals to end the game.
After the game Adrian Hiram was awarded the MVP of Team USA.
Despite the loss Team USA put in a solid effort in the second game of the World Floorball Championships and continue to develop as a team.
Up next are Canada at 15:30 CET on Friday. A game that promises to be physical and full speed ahead.
