The U.S. Women’s National Team has triumphed in the World Floorball Championship Qualifier, earning their place in the 2025 World Floorball Championships (WFC), set to take place in Brno and Ostrava, Czech Republic, this December.
The qualifier series against Canada was a hard-fought battle packed with highs and challenges. The opening game turned into a goal-scoring spectacle, with Team USA winning the game 9-6. The offensive trio of Marie Haggstrom, Klara Kyrk Gere, and Suzanne Lindquist led the charge, pouring in goals to secure the win.
However, in the second game, Canada returned with renewed energy and a clear strategy after closely studying the U.S. game style. Despite a determined effort, Team USA fell 3-2.
With the series tied, Team USA knew they had to step up in the final showdown. Through key strategic adjustments, active coaching from Swiss coaches Michael Grandchamp and Frederic Bernabo, and strong team spirit, the team secured the victory over Canada 7-5. This marks Team USA’s sixth consecutive appearance at the Women’s World Floorball Championship.
Notably, young goalie Ella Gjerde made her debut in the second game, stepping in with confidence and earning Player of the Game honors for her performance. Meanwhile, the team faced adversity with an unfortunate injury to Ruth Leach in the first game, leaving her missed in the remaining games. Team captain Marie Haggstrom played a key role in USA’s success, contributing an impressive eleven points (5+6) throughout the qualifier.
What ultimately defined Team USA’s success was the unwavering support and camaraderie among the players. Their dedication, resilience, and belief in each other proved vital in this memorable win.
As the team celebrates this achievement, the focus will soon shift toward preparing for the World Floorball Championships in December 2025. Twelve European teams have already secured their places, and the remaining three places will be decided at the Asia-Oceania qualifier next week. The Official draw to determine the groups for the Women’s World Floorball Championship 2025 will take place in Ostrava on Thursday March 20.
